Little progress in other homicide cases
It has been five days since the cold bloodied murders of thirty-two year old Dorian Michael and twenty-four year old Keiva Leslie and tonight their killer or killers remain at large. Michael and Leslie were reportedly kidnapped and taken up to a feeder road just north of the Haulover Bridge where they were each shot in the head.
Police are still not sure where the kidnapping may have occurred, but their investigation suggests that Michael and Leslie were inside Michael’s maroon van when the vehicle was hijacked. The kidnappers then used the van in a hold up at the Esso gas station on Freetown Road where a tank of gas and three hundred and fifty dollars were stolen.
It is then police believe Leslie and Michael were taken up the road and executed. Today Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid says although they have not yet arrested anyone for the double homicide, investigators have been receiving new and pertinent information.

“We do have a number of leads that we’re following up on. At some point we believe that there’ll be a break in this case. So far there is not anything I can discuss with you or anything that I am at liberty to reveal, but needless to say, there is a lot of work going into this. It’s one of those puzzling and enigmatic situations where we are hoping that sooner than later we will find out exactly what transpired here.”
Sunday night’s double murder was not the only crime to occur by the Haulover Bridge that weekend. Earlier in the day, the police recovered the body of a man who had multiple cut wounds to the neck and chest. The unidentified victim has been described as slim built and of dark complexion. The only thing police have to go on is part of a letter that was found in his pant pocket. The note, written in Spanish, opened with “Para Jonathan.”

“No, we still have not found an identity for that person. We are hoping, pictures have been taken, of course the body had to be buried because of the state of decomposition, but we don’t know yet who this individual was and we continue to appeal to the public to let us know if you have any information that might help to determine the identity.”
Belize City police are still hoping that the person who witnessed the fatal knockdown of twenty-three year old Jerry Romero will come forward and provide the information that will identify the driver responsible for the hit and run that occurred around one-thirty on the morning of March seventeenth.

“That is a situation that we are looking at very carefully. We are not letting up on that, and no, we have not yet identified a vehicle nor a driver. It’s unfortunate and we’ve believe that the family deserves a closure to this case and we are again appealing to everyone out there; somebody must have known something, somebody must have seen something. There must be enough information to at least give us a lead that we can follow and come to a settlement of this case.”
That Saturday morning Jerry Romero was riding his motorcycle over the Pound Yard Bridge when a car described as a grey Ford Escort drove through the stop sign at the corner of East Collet Canal and Cemetery Road and broadsided the bike. The unidentified driver did not stop to render aid. Romero, who received severe head trauma and body injuries, suffered massive internal bleeding and died at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.
