Suspect charged in Willow’s Bank murder
The suspect accused of murdering a Belize City father in front of his wife and children appeared in Magistrate’s Court today. On Tuesday, relatives of thirty-one year old Stewart Sutherland accompanied him to the Queen Street Police station where he turned himself over to investigators. He has since been charged with the murder of forty-one year old Gary Gabourel at his home in Willow’s Bank. Because murder is an indictable offence, no plea was taken from Sutherland when he was brought before Chief Magistrate Margaret Gabb. He has been remanded to Hattieville Prison until April fifth. The accused was represented in court this afternoon by attorney Michael Peyrefitte. Around eight-thirty on Sunday morning, the victim was shot at close range with a sixteen gauge shotgun. The suspected murder weapon has been recovered by authorities.
