Two winners claim $157,500 lotto jackpot

Story PictureIt wasn’t Tropical Gaming’s biggest jackpot but hey, one hundred and fifty-seven thousand five hundred dollars isn’t exactly chump change. That’s why there were more than a few people keeping their fingers crossed during the Saturday night’s lotto draw. And when it was over, two lucky people came away winners. According to San Ignacio resident Eleodoro Guerra, he’s a die-hard Lotto customer and when the winning ticket mistakenly ended up in the trash, he went in after it.

Eleodoro Guerra, Lotto Winner
“I mi did mek wah mistake because I mi throw way the ticket because I usually buy Wednesday. I put the ticket fi Wednesday, I put up dat one and the one fi Saturday I throw it inna de drum, inna the garbage drum. So when I heard about it, I hurry gawn inna the drum and dig it out and luckily thank God that I find it.”

Eleodoro Guerra
“Yes, luckily he neva pass early.”

The other winner in Saturday’s lotto draw is Josephine Mossiah of Scotland Halfmoon. Like Guerra, Mossiah had come close to winning before so she and her children could scarcely believe it when their numbers finally played.

Josephine Mossiah, Lotto Winner
“I mi the wait up till afta ten Saturday night fi hear the Lotto number call and afta dat I seh I get to sleepy man, I gwine da my bed and as I jump inna my bed I hear the numbers they start to call. And when I hear deh start to call I seh Oh My! Janelle Chanona
“So what did you girls do?”

Daughters

Janelle Chanona
“So what you going to do with the money?”

Josephine Mossiah
“Well I plan fi mek good use out of it. Help mi children them and help others who mi help me inna times of need.”

After taxes, both Guerra and Mossiah each took home cheques for just under sixty-seven thousand dollars. The winning numbers were five, twelve, fifteen, eighteen, and twenty-five.
