Suspect charged with murder after victim dies

Story PictureThursday morning’s shooting is officially a murder investigation as the critically wounded victim succumbed to his injuries earlier today. According to doctors at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, around three forty-five this morning twenty year old Sherwin Locke died as a result of his gunshot wounds. Locke had been rushed to the emergency room just after eleven yesterday, suffering from three bullets wounds to the head. He immediately underwent surgery but lapsed into a coma last night. And while doctors were trying to save his life, police investigators were trying to track down Locke’s killer. This morning, authorities arrested the suspected triggerman, twenty-nine year old Altreed Williams, a resident of Mahogany Street, and charged him with murder. We understand that Williams was one of several people detained for questioning yesterday. Police sources indicate that at least one eyewitness to the incident has positively identified the accused as the shooter. Altreed appeared before Magistrate Albert Hoare this afternoon where he pled not guilty to the charge. Altreed was emotional following his arraignment, openly shedding tears and asserting that he was innocent of the crime. He went on to tell bystanders that he does not even know the victim. Up to news time, the murder weapon–believed to be a nine millimetre pistol–had yet to be recovered. Locke was near Electric Avenue off Mahogany Street when he was chased and shot at by a masked and armed gunman. The victim sought refuge in a nearby mangrove patch, but his attacker followed him and inflicted the fatal injuries at close range.
