Shooting victim clings to life at K.H.M.H.

Story PictureTonight a young man hovers on the edge of life at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital, the victim of a late morning shooting near Mahogany Street. The victim has been identified as twenty year old Sherwin Locke. According to an eyewitness, around eleven this morning, Locke emerged from this path and ran onto Electric Avenue at break neck speed. Close behind him was a masked and armed gunman. Reports to News Five are that during the chase multiple gunshots were fired at the fleeing victim. At least one of those bullets found its mark as Locke cried out in pain. The bleeding man attempted to escape through this patch of mangrove, but collapsed in a small clearing. At this point, it is suspected that the gunman then stood over Locke and shot him in the back of the head. The victim was transported to the K.H.M.H. where he was immediately rushed into the operating theatre for emergency surgery. According to family members, Locke may have been in the area to exchange video games with a friend as two Play Station CDs were in his pocket at the time of the shooting. They contend that this is the first time an attempt has been made on Locke’s life. However, the young man is no stranger to police, having been implicated but not convicted for several robberies including the heist at Brad’s Store in March 2005. His most recent scrape with the law occurred in January of this year when he was accused of the armed hold-up of an elderly couple. He is currently out on bail on that charge. Tonight police tell News Five that they believe they have the identity of the triggerman but have yet to detain him.
