First Preschool Festival of Arts starts tonight

Story PictureThey’ve got rhythm, they’ve got music and they’ve got dance and starting tonight the participants in the first ever Preschool Festival of Arts will have centre stage at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. This morning I stopped by for a preview of the entertainment.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Over the next four days, students from twenty-seven preschools and early education institutions in Belize City, Ladyville and Burrell Boom will be performing in their very own Festival of Arts. According to organizers, the event will be similar to programs by their older peers but there will be no individual winners as all the participants will receive certificates of participation.

Leroy Green, Programme Director
“Rather than saying you are at bronze, you are at silver, you are at gold because they are too young for that kind of thing. Most of them are three and four years old who will be participating in the festival.”

According to Programme Director Leroy Green, the idea is to help strengthen the children’s creative abilities through music, drama and art.

Leroy Green
“The young people get exposed to the real stage, the theatre, to the ethics of the theatre to develop their creative talents, their dramatic talents, their singing talents whatever, this will put Belize in a better place where artists are concerned in the future.

The children will be performing for two hours every night at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts. Green says he is encouraged by the overwhelming support for the event as a total of a hundred and fifty entries are planned.

Leroy Green
“And I do believe that if this enthusiasm and interest keeps up, it all goes well for the future artists of Belize.”
