National Basketball Team still awaits appeal results

The basketball dream team received a heroes’ welcome when they returned home on Saturday but it is still not certain if they will keep their silver trophy. The team played all their games under protest after COCABA and the other teams questioned their Belizean heritage. There is still no word from FIBA on whether we get to keep the trophy. That result is expected in a couple of months. And while Belize’s position is strong, there is still that slim chance that we could be stripped of the award. After that, the only other forum for appeal is the International Court of Sports in Switzerland. Last week Belize beat Nicaragua, Guatemala, Panama and Costa Rica at the regional games. The team however lost by a razor-thin margin to Mexico in the final seconds of the game.
