Robbery attempt ends in city shooting

Belize City police are asking anyone with information on a shooting that occurred this morning to call them or Crime Stoppers. At this time, authorities say they do not know who shot forty-two year old Orlando Novelo, but investigations reveal that the incident may be the result of a robbery gone awry.

According to reports, Novelo was on Ebony Street near the intersection with Zericote Street when two men on separate bicycles approached him. One of them pulled out a handgun and demanded money, but when an assailant took away Novelo’s wallet and saw that it was empty, cops say that is when Novelo was shot in his upper right leg. The men then simply rode off on their bicycles.
