Cops collar Ladyville burglary suspect
A suspect accused of stealing a taxi man’s possessions in Ladyville has been arrested and charged. According to the victim, David McKenzie, when he pulled up to his Dawn Road home around three-thirty on Sunday morning he was surprised to see a young man in his yard carrying a V.C.R. and other household goods. Realising he was being robbed, McKenzie yelled at the thief who immediately dropped the items and took off running. The homeowner pursued the culprit, but near Perez Road the thief turned on McKenzie with a knife and yelled, “I wah kill yuh now!” At this point the chase ended and the armed assailant disappeared into the dark. McKenzie immediately reported the incident to police and before dawn, a mobile police unit picked up a suspect who fit the homeowner’s description of the thief. He is twenty-five year old Kenroy Betancourt of Flamboyant Street in Ladyville. Betancourt appeared before Magistrate Dorothy Flowers where he pled not guilty to the charges of aggravated assault, threatening words, handling stolen goods, and burglary. He was offered and met bail of three thousand five hundred dollars and a surety of the same amount. The case has been adjourned until the eighteenth of April.
