Stabbing victim revived after 20 minutes “dead”

A Placencia girl is lucky to be alive after a shocking attack on the peninsula last night. According to police, around nine on Monday night sixteen year old Haidy Nunez was home alone when an unknown assailant or assailants attacked her with a knife. The teenager was struck three times in her throat and left to die. The victim’s fourteen year old sister, who was out buying food, made the gruesome discovery a short time later and the badly bleeding girl was rushed for medical treatment. At eleven-fifteen, Nunez arrived by helicopter at the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital. According to doctors, she had already been clinically dead for twenty minutes, the result of hypovolemic shock from the massive blood loss. Medical personnel immediately began cardiac massage and surgical intervention and remarkably, managed to resuscitate the girl. We understand tonight that Haidy’s condition has improved dramatically since then and she managed to open her eyes this morning. Family members continue to hold vigil at her bedside. Police say they have made no arrests in the case but have recovered the weapon used in the attack. Disturbingly, investigators say at this time robbery is not believed to be the motive as money and other valuables were left at the scene, suggesting that young Nunez was the intended target.
