A.C.C. hosts pageant with a difference

Story PictureAt some point during the year, almost every school in the country uses a pageant as a fundraiser, but on Friday night one city institution is hosting such an event to send a message to the public. The organisers of Mr. and Ms. Anglican Cathedral College have partnered with the Women’s Department to take a stand against a major problem plaguing our society.

Karen Bailey, Organiser
“We’ve seen an increase in domestic violence since before the Christmas holidays and we as a school felt it necessary to show that our young people knew what is going on in the society.”

Janelle Chanona
“What message are you trying to send to the wider society?”

Karen Bailey
“All our candidates have very positive names: Unity, Faithfulness, Sincerity so we are trying to send out a positive message so that the youths understand there is a difference in right and wrong and what is going on in the society. … We have some wonderful candidates they have wonderful talent lined up and most of all, they are aware of what is going on.”

Janelle Chanona
“Would you hope more people would piggy back on this idea…”

Karen Bailey
“Of course, of course, certainly because the more people know and the more women feel comfortable—women and men because it can be a two way street—then I believe we’ll see a decrease in domestic violence.”

The Mr. and Ms. A.C.C. pageant is set to start Friday night at seven at the Bliss. Entrance fee is ten dollars.
