Minor arrested for farm worker’s murder
Four days after seventy year old Juan Tot was brutally murdered police have yet to determine a clear motive behind the crime. The victim’s body was discovered around nine last Thursday night in an orange orchard belonging to the Citrus Company of Belize in La Democracia Village. Several severe chop wounds had been inflicted to Tot’s head and body. Family members tell News Five they believe nothing was stolen because Tot was found with approximately six hundred dollars in cash in his pockets. This morning police told the media that two young men who had a misunderstanding with the victim may be the perpetrators. At this morning’s police press conference Assistant Commissioner of Police and Head of Eastern Division Crispin Jefferies would only say that they now have the two main suspects in custody.

“Over the weekend we spent a lot of time looking at that investigation and I am to inform you that, at this time, we have taken into custody two young male persons that may well be the main persons we are seeking in connection with that investigation. At this time we are not releasing any further details but just to say that there is significant amount of success that we have made with that investigation and shortly, as per the directive of the D.P.P., we may be charging somebody with the crime – that is where we are with that investigation. At this time, the belief is that we have the right people and we are seeking a little bit more before we go to charging.”
Late this evening court reports indicate that a fifteen year old resident of Mahogany Heights has been charged with Tot’s murder. The matter has been adjourned until March thirtieth.
