Sir George Brown wins Audubon award

Story PictureThe Belize Audubon Society has announced the recipient of the 2007 James A. Waight award. He is Sir George Brown. Sir George was honoured at an official ceremony on Friday night in Belize City where his contributions to the social, cultural, and environmental development of Belize were highlighted. The former Chief Justice was credited for his tireless commitment to influence young Belizeans through the art of sailing and a love for the sea. Today the George N. Brown Foundation hosts a training programme “Youths at Risk”, which encourages participation in athletics and craftsmanship through activities like boat building, sailing, and football. Every year, the Audubon Society receives nominations for the award which are then reviewed by a panel of past awardees, board members and the general public.
