Man seeks reward; instead arrested
Tonight a Belize district man has been arrested and charged with handling stolen goods after he showed up at the victim’s doorstep asking for a reward. On February second, American businessman Eugene Pech reported to police that sometime between January tenth and that day, his internet modem and Sony laptop computer, valued at more than four thousand dollars, were stolen from his mobile home, parked at mile twenty-six on the Northern Highway. But shortly after reporting the incident to police, Pech says a man known to him only as Arnold showed up at his door and offered to return the modem for a reward of one hundred and twenty-five dollars. Pech paid the money but immediately reported the encounter to Ladyville police. Subsequent investigations have led to the arrest of forty-three year old William Arnold of Boston Village. Arnold was later charged with handling stolen goods. He was offered bail of twenty five hundred dollars and ordered to return to court on April sixth. Authorities are still looking for Pech’s laptop.
