Accused rapists charged with threat of death

Last June, the public responded in outrage following a report by a nine year old child that she had been sexually assaulted by a neighbour and his wife. Thirty-three year old Wilfred Gillett was charged with six counts of rape and six counts of carnal knowledge, while his common-law wife, thirty-four year old Beverly Simpson, was arraigned on a similar number of charges for abetment to rape and carnal knowledge. According to court reports, the nine year old would routinely visit Simpson’s house, where it is alleged that on separate occasions, beginning April twenty-eighth, Simpson would hold the little girl down while her partner would rape her. Today the case is back in the headlines as Gillett and Simpson have been additionally charged with threat of death. According to court reports, the duo was rearrested after the victim told authorities that she was told “if you say anything yu wah get cut with a knife.” The preliminary investigation for this case has been scheduled for March fourteenth and then the matter will be transferred to the Supreme Court.
