Injured cruise tourist still at U.H.S.
Last Wednesday we reported on an incident at the Fort Street Tourism Village where one of their heavy steel gates fell on a cruise ship visitor. At the time, we were told that sixty year old Patricia Tate suffered a broken hip, but that after remaining immobile for twenty-four to forty-eight hours she would be medivaced home to Kansas. Well, eight days after the incident, Tate still lies in a hospital bed at Universal Health Services. When we spoke to her husband Jean this afternoon, he told News Five that his wife’s pelvis is fractured in two places and that she cannot walk or sit up properly. Tate said the reason they haven’t returned to the U.S. is because the Village’s owners say it’s too expensive and refused to pay for the trip. We understand that the service by private jet to Houston costs around twenty-one thousand U.S. dollars. Instead, the couple is trying to book a business class seat on a commercial airline tomorrow, which will take them to Oklahoma. From there, an ambulance will drive Mrs. Tate to Wichita. The premium seat is required to give the patient more room to rest on the flights. According to Jean Tate, it will be three to six weeks before his wife is able to walk again. We tried to contact James Nisbet at the Tourism Village, but he was unavailable.
