Fulltime shoplifters get two years for current theft

Story PictureIn court today, two female professional shoplifters were sentenced to an additional two years in jail for stealing a thirteen dollar bottle of Nescafe and a twenty dollar bottle of Infant Tylenol. The two, who already have previous convictions for Theft, are Nioka Smith, a hair braider of Iguana Street and her partner in crime, Sasha Bowen, a mother of two young children of Central American Boulevard. They were caught red-handed by an employee of Esso Gas Station as they stole the items worth thirty-five dollars and twenty five cents. At arraignment on October thirtieth, the duo pleaded not guilty but they changed their pleas today and were sent back to jail. James Stewart, on behalf of the shop owner, Aaron Gongora, told police that he recognized and monitored the two women with the surveillance camera and caught them hiding the items under their clothing. When the police were called in and the women attempted to flee, the bottle of Tylenol fell from one of them and the then other pulled out the coffee. The women’s other recent conviction was in February of this year, after they were caught at a store located at Mile eight on the Northern Highway. They pleaded guilty and got two years sentences for stealing Klim and batteries. That’s not all, the women have also been caught stealing from Save-U, Simon Quan and have a pending case before the San Pedro Magistrate’s Court for a similar offense.
