Credit card recall applies to all banks

There is more detailed news to report tonight on the cautionary replacement of credit cards in Belize. Research reveals that the compromising of the Visa and Mastercards was not isolated to one bank but involves virtually all banks that issue those cards worldwide. The security breach by a computer hacker occurred in the system of TJX Corporation, the parent company of Marshall’s, T.J. MAXX and other popular retailers in the U.S.A., Canada and United Kingdom. Cardholders who made purchases at these chains are potentially vulnerable and it is believed that all of Belize’s commercial banks are notifying a select number of cardholders of the possible security risk and are issuing new cards as a precaution. Scotiabank has indicated that seventy-seven of its customers are potentially affected and have been notified, while Belize Bank reports that some three percent of its cardholders may have some vulnerability and already have been issued new Visa or Mastercards. It should be noted that there are no documented cases of fraud on any Belizean cards, but in the event of questionable charges, customers should notify their bank and any fraudulent billing will be reversed. Viewers who have used their cards at any of the TJX owned chains and are unsure of their card’s status are advised to call their issuing bank.
