Awareness campaign promotes community cleanliness
This morning residents of five villages in the Stann Creek District took part in a march for the environment. The event, organised by the N.G.O. Friends of Nature included the participation of students and residents of Independence, Placencia, Seine Bight, Hopkins, and Monkey River. The villagers say they want to make their feelings known about the importance of keeping their communities clean. The march is one element of a project initiated with COMPACT, the Community Management of Protected Areas Program, which seeks to promote the cleaning and beautification of the five villages. The community that does the best job will win a prize of one thousand dollars. The video you are watching was taken in Independence, were it is reported that four hundred people participated in the walk.
