Rufus X disconnected for illegal power supply
He has been surprised with power theft at least three times this month. And this afternoon police and Belize Electricity Board personnel showed up at the home of TV personality and businessman, Rufus X on Second Avenue in the Buttonwood Bay area. But it was not a courtesy call they were paying. In fact, the B.E.L. crew was there to disconnect Rufus X of illegal power supply he allegedly had running directly from the power line to his property. The connection was made by connecting electrical wire to the B.E.L. main line, short-circuiting the meter. According to B.E.L., this is not the first time, nor the second, nor even the third time that they have had to disconnect Rufus X from their main line. A spokesperson from B.E.L. told News Five this evening that they have recorded over three hundred cases of power theft countrywide since the beginning of 2009. Rufus X is allegedly one such case. In fact, the spokesperson told us that this is the third time for this month alone that they have gone out to the premises and disconnected the illegal power. But the illegal connections are said to date back to 2006. News Five was also informed that B.E.L. will press charges of power theft. The utility company reminds the public that power theft is a crime that poses a safety hazard and is also unfair to the paying customer. The company has taken similar lawsuits against other repeat offenders.
