Fuel company helps primary school with basketball court
It has been in the pipeline for some time but today the staff and students of Buttonwood Bay Nazarene Primary School finally have their basketball court, courtesy of SOL Belize Limited. Company manager Joe Habet says they decided to help the children after they noticed a shortage of amenities at the institution.
Joe Habet, Manager, SOL Belize Limited
“The first project we did was the fence. So the fence we did in early 2006, now shortly after that we saw the construction of the basketball court. It took awhile because we ran into several obstacles.”
Rafael Sosa, P.R, Ministry of Education
“We at the Ministry of education are certainly pleased for this donation and certainly pleased whenever any private enterprise, any private company can make an offer to assist our schools, whether it be the government schools or any of the schools throughout this country. I think it speaks to the partnership that exists between the private and public sector.”
Ruth Castillo, Principal, Nazarene Primary School
“It certainly has been one of our dreams. We watched this court take shape from start to where it is today and we are very happy that it’s finally finished and that the children will be able to enjoy it.”
To date SOL Belize has spent a total of twenty thousand dollars on the school. To prepare the grounds for the basketball court, the Ministry of Education supplied the landfill.
