Cooperation builds new Valley of Peace community centre
After months of sweat equity, on Saturday afternoon the residents of the Valley of Peace celebrated the official opening of their new community centre. The building was declared ready for use by Prime Minister Said Musa. Scouts from Ontario, Canada contributed more than thirty-eight thousand dollars towards the project and in August, twenty-four volunteers visited Belize to work alongside villagers, doing everything from mixing concrete to sawing lumber. Other contributors to the initiative included the Scouts Association of Belize, Government of Belize, and the Village Water Board. According to the P.M., the project demonstrates what can be accomplished when people join forces.
Prime Minister Said Musa
“There is growing prosperity and this prosperity comes out of hard work, comes out of working in unity, and that is why I’m especially proud to be here sharing this moment with you, because this centre was built on the very same principle, hard work and unity of purpose. And so my friends today we celebrate the Valley of Peace.”
“Vamos adelante compañeros, trabajando juntos, marchando juntos hasta un futuro mejor para todos los Beliceños. Muchísimas gracias.”
The multi-purpose building will also double as a hurricane shelter. Total cash cost of the structure was fifty thousand dollars.
