Guat. Ambassador’s home burglarized while he slept

Story PictureCan you imagine waking up from a night’s rest only to find out that your home has been burglarized and your vehicle stolen? Well that’s exactly what the Guatemalan ambassador and his wife experienced this morning at their official residence in King’s Park today. Forty-six year old diplomat Manuel Pelloz has reported to police that sometime between midnight last night and eight this morning, a thief or thieves entered his home through a second floor window and stole a camera and a laptop. They may have also found a set of car keys because robbers also managed to steal the embassy’s grey Toyota Prado to make their escape. To make matters worse, an hour and a half before Pelloz found out that his SUV was gone, the thieves had extensively damaged the vehicle in a traffic accident on the Northern Highway. Around six thirty this morning Orange Walk businessman Mardona Leiva was on his way to Belize City in his delivery truck but between miles nine and ten a grey Prado lost control and ran into the side of his eighteen wheeler. Following the collision, the Prado overturned several times. Leiva later told police he saw two young men running from the vehicle. Investigations into the incident continue but police admit that at this time they have no suspects. And in case you were wondering, the Guatemalan embassy is outfitted with a security system but according to police the ambassador forgot to arm the device before retiring for the night.
