Third party announces its plans for 2008 elections
Campaign fever may be off to an early start as today the party called Vision Inspired by the People held a press conference in Belize City to announce its electoral plans. The official VIP candidates number only six: Hubert Enriquez, Paul Morgan and Bobby Lopez who will be contesting constituencies in the Cayo district, Patrick Rogers is thinking about Collet, Max Cho who will be running in Toledo and Mateo Polanco has thrown his hat in the Stann Creek West ring. But according to the leaders, that number could grow in a short time as VIP is exploring the possibility of merging with the We the People Movement. While the VIP party ran a respectable third in the 2006 municipal elections in Belmopan, no truly independent candidate has ever had electoral success in a national election. Undaunted by that fact, not to mention a lack of financial resources, today the third party says it will use its social capital to win votes on election day.
