Missing man sighted in Orange Walk
Today, the family of Raymond Simon remains hopeful that soon they will be reunited with their loved one. This follows an encouraging phone call Florence Martinez received about the possible whereabouts of her common law husband. Martinez says after our news report on Monday night, the Orange Walk police contacted her to say a vehicle that matches the description of the car that Simon was driving when he left his home in Vista Del Mar, around seven on Friday morning, was involved in an accident on the bypass that leads to Corozal. This morning, Martinez positively identified the Ford Taurus which is now at the Orange Walk police station. According to Martinez, it is believed that Simon suffered a blow out that caused him to run off the road. Martinez says the police told her that people in the area saw an elderly man get out of the vehicle and started to walk away. When the man was approached and asked for his name he appeared to have memory problems and left the scene of the accident on foot. Authorities say when they arrived they impounded the vehicle and waited for the driver to come in and give a statement but that he never showed up. That was apparently the last time he has been seen. Because Simon is carrying his passport and money, police believe he may be heading to the northern border. The family say they do not know if Simon may have hitched a ride with a passing motorist following the accident but they are hoping that local news coverage in the area may help them find him. Again, if you have seen Raymond Simon please contact Florence Martinez at 601- 1328 or 225-2634 or call the nearest police station.
