Another fire leaves family homeless

Less than twelve hours later, another fire on the city’s south side eviscerated an elevated wooden structure occupied by Michael and Leticia Watler.  This morning around eleven-thirty, personnel from the National Fire Service were once again summoned to a blazing inferno, this time on Central American Boulevard in Port Loyola.  As in the Lake I fire, the family lost all its belongings. The fire spread to an adjacent building, but fortunately, it was contained before completely destroying that residence.

Benisford Matura, Operations Officer, National Fire Service

“Approximately 11:30, we got a call of a structural fire on Central American Boulevard. Upon arrival, a fourteen by eighteen wooden structure approximately six feet off the ground was totally engulfed in flames. We got into operation and extinguished that. An adjacent structure, approximately five feet, got scorched only on one of the exterior walls. The owner of the structure that got burnt was Michael Walters and his wife, Leticia Walters—they were the sole occupiers of that structure.”

All in all, twenty-one persons have been left homeless by the two fires.
