Three charged for home invasion
Eighteen year old Dennis Ortega, twenty year old Sherwin Locke, and thirty year old Barrington Slusher are the three men police say entered the home of seventy-one year old Radiance Sutherland and eighty-three year old Camille Sutherland. The elderly couple were held up at gun point, assaulted, and robbed on Tuesday afternoon. This morning the accused appeared before Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord where they were charged for aggravated burglary and two counts of aggravated assault.
While Locke and Ortega pled not guilty, Slusher took the rap for both charges. In court Slusher said that he does not know the other two defendants and also claimed that he was beaten by the police. Slusher was then sentenced to eight years and six months in prison.
And Locke and Ortega? They were remanded to Hattieville prison until January nineteenth after Lord refused a bail application made by Attorney Hubert Elrington. The robbery occurred at number one Kelly Street. Police report that when they were informed that the crime was in progress, they immediately responded. As they reached the junction of Newtown Barracks people in the area pointed out one of the suspects who, upon seeing the police, ran into Hunters Lane, but was soon apprehended. The man identified himself as Barrington Slusher and allegedly told police that he was sorry. Authorities also claim Slusher told them that he, Sherwin Locke, and another man went to rob the people on Kelly Street.
