Former school warden claims political victimization
Politics, it seems can find its way in every aspect of Belizean life. Such is the case of thirty eight year old Hirian Good who got a job as a school warden in September of 2006 by former Minister of Education, Francis Fonseca. Good claims that she has done a great job and her efforts were recognized on numerous occasions by the school and the ministry. Now this mother of four is only a few weeks away from facing school fees and she finds out that she is out of a job, and she says it was because of “politricks”.

“On the third of August I get a call from my supervisor, Ms. Jane. Ih seh Ms. Good come to di office, I got wah letta fi yoh. So I seh which letta. So ih seh wah letta of dismissal. So I ask ah why and ih seh come to di office. So I seh ok tomorrow I di come. So I gone Tuesday and I ask fi si di manager, Mr. Dale Anthony and I ask ah could you please tell me why I di get dismissed because as far as I know I have done a good job. I have gotten recommendation and certifications even from the di school. Give me one reason I di get dismissed.”

“I have four and di four ah dehn di go dah college now; two dah Pallotti, one dah John’s, one dah Wesley. Each one ah dehn dah one thousand and odd dollars and I noh pay dat yet. No uniform yet, nothing yet noh buy and school di open next week so I noh know. And di thing is my husband has served this country from when he—forty years more or less he serve dis country and fi mek dehn do we dis. I noh think di people—P.U.P. and U.D.P. should stop dehn thing yah.”
Good said while as a school warden for Trinity Methodist School, she even did additional duties since the institution did not have a cook.
