Margaret Gabb is new Chief Magistrate
Belize has a new Chief Magistrate and her name is Margaret Gabb. Effective tomorrow, Gabb will take over the duties of former Chief Magistrate Herbert Lord. Gabb began her career with the civil service in 1989, working as a summons clerk. She later served as Assistant Clerk of the Courts until she was appointed as a Magistrate in 1994. Fifty-two year old Gabb has a Paralegal Studies certificate as well as a Bachelor’s Degree in Law from the University of the West Indies and a certificate in Legal Education from the Norman Manley Law School. Gabb resides in Belize City and she is the mother of five girls. While Gabb is the first Belizean woman to be appointed to the bench, she is not the first female to be given the honour as Bridget Nurse, a Guyanese national already has that distinction.
