Women bite and hit each other for ex-lover

Story PictureWhose man is it? That is what started an argument that landed two women in front of Magistrate Aretha Ford on criminal charges. This morning police charged nineteen year old Christy Alisa Mejia of the St. Martin’s De Porres area with Grievous Harm. Mejia, a UB student, appeared unrepresented and pleaded not guilty to the charge. She was offered bail in the sum of two thousand dollars, which she met. While Mejia was arraigned, police were preparing Grievous Harm charges against Adelita Aranda, a helper at Caesar’s Bakery, who claims she was the real victim. Aranda was arrested after being treated for her injuries at the KHMH. She claimed that during the brawl, Mejia suffered a bite to the right ear while she was bitten on the chin and hit with a piece of board. Court prosecutor, Sergeant Kenneth Magdaleno did not object to bail but asked the court to set conditions for the women’s bail. They were ordered to stay away from prosecution witnesses and they are not to come before the court on any other charges. Aranda told court reporters that she was heading to her cousin’s house when Mejia confronted her with threatening words. Mejia then attacked her from behind with a piece of stick. Then all hell broke loose and the women got into a serious battle. Mejia’s mother parted the two women from further harming each other. According to Aranda, for years they have been having problems over a man who happened to be Mejia’s cousin but her relationship with the man is no more. Both Mejia and Aranda are due back in court on October fourteenth.
