B.T.I.A. attends consultations with Bond Negotiation committee
Government and bondholders are at a stalemate five months after the negotiations started and are basically back at square one. But Jim Scott, the former president of the B.T.I.A., said today that the team leader has asked him to inform tourism industry stakeholders that the negotiations were moving forward.
Jim Scott, Immediate Former President, B.T.I.A.
“B.T.I.A. was invited to the private sector consultations with the committee for the renegotiations of the superbond for Belize and I received a call two days ago from the chairman, Mr. Mark Espat, who had told me and he said that I could repeat this at this meeting, that the bondholders have given a counter offer to government in negotiating the superbond and that it appears that the negotiations, although he was certain there would be some negative press on both sides, he was confident that the renegotiations for the superbond were moving in a positive direction. He just wanted to let us know, as an industry, that they were given a counter offer from their original offer from the committee that represents the bondholders.”
