Man charged with robbery, girlfriend with blackmail

A man and his girlfriend are in legal trouble tonight, the former charged with robbery and the latter for threatening the victim if she testified. Twenty-five year old Nicaraguan Luis Gomez is charged with robbing his ex-girlfriend, Elita Moody, in June of last year on Albert Street. He allegedly cornered her with the help of two other men and relieved her of three hundred twenty-five dollars. But at a hearing today before Magistrate Sharon Fraser Moody asked the court to drop the charges. Why? Moody explained that Gomez’s present girlfriend, Marcela Toledo, told her that if she did not drop the case she would kidnap Moody’s child and take him to Nicaragua, never to return. That revelation did not sit well with Magistrate Fraser who ordered police to find Marcela Toledo and bring her before the court. So said, so done. Toledo was taken into custody and will now be charged for blackmail. Moody is expected to testify against her as well as Gomez, whose trial resumes on January sixteenth.
