O.W. cop wounds man to quell domestic dispute
In Orange Walk the only shot fired in anger over the weekend was loosed by a police officer after his partner was assaulted trying to quell a domestic dispute. Twenty-eight year old Eduardo Moralez of Guinea Grass Village was shot by an unnamed cop in the leg after Moralez hit the policeman’s partner, Constable Kenny Cano, with a hammer. According to police reports, twenty-one year old Cynthia Moralez called authorities telling them that her husband was drunk and was threatening to harm her. Upon arriving at the couple’s home around four a.m. New Year’s morning, police found Moralez threatening his wife with a hammer. It was while police attempted to restrain Moralez, that he hit Cano on the side of the officer’s head. After Cano fell down, Moralez attempted to hit the officer again. This led to Cano’s partner drawing his revolver and firing a single shot which caught Moralez in the left leg. That injury allowed the officers to apprehend Moralez. Both Moralez and Cano were taken to the Northern Regional for treatment where Cano was treated for a gash to the side of the head and released, while Moralez remains under police guard in stable condition. He will be charged upon release.
