One year after fire, Cayo family still in need
In December 2005, we met a young girl from the Cayo district whose heroism touched our lives. Then thirteen, Jessica Garcia braved the raging flames of a home fire to save her four younger siblings. Following our news story, we were happy to acknowledge the outpouring of support from the community. But one year later, we regret to report that while their physical injuries have healed, the Garica children are still very much in need.

The Garcia children, ages four to fourteen years old, still bear the scars from the burns they suffered in the fire that destroyed their home on Christmas Day one year ago. Today the children live with their father in this small wooden house in Central Farm not too far away from where the tragedy occurred on the Baking Pot Ferry Road. Neighbours tell News Five the traumatic experience is now just a memory.
