Child killed by Rottweiller dogs
We reported last night on the tragic death of a seven year old boy from the Cayo District. Dualvin Salinas, a Guatemalan national, was along with nine year old David Moltavan when he ventured into Finley Monsanto’s yard to pick up coconuts in the Hill View area of Santa Elena. While Monsanto was asleep, his dogs were wide awake and attacked young Salinas, delivering fatal bites to his throat. Moltavan, however, escaped unharmed. When we contacted the San Ignacio Police Station today, the Officer in charge of the C.I.B., Sergeant Kent Paulino, told us what they’re investigations have revealed thus far.
Sgt. Kent Paulino, O.C., C.I.B., San Ignacio Police Station
“What happened is that on the fifteenth of August at about one-fifteen p.m., acting upon information received, San Ignacio Police visited the Hill View area in Santa Elena in a fenced yard where they saw the lifeless body of Dualvin Jacinto Salinas—seven years old, date of birth seventeenth of the first 01’—suffering from multiple dog bites on his neck. Initial investigations revealed that at one p.m., the said deceased and one David Moltavan went to cut firewood in a yard nearby. As a result they entered a yard to pick up coconuts—this yard was fenced noh—he was attacked by two Rottweilers who bit him to his neck causing his death.”

“Has there been action against or will there be action against the owners of the dogs?”
Sgt. Kent Paulino
“Well, at this time the file is being compiled to be sent to the D.P.P. for them to give us their directives and thereafter we’ll do whatever action based on the directives from the D.P.P.”
Delahnie Bain
“Okay, but so far no one has been detained.”
Sgt. Kent Paulino
“No ma’am.”
Salinas had been living with his aunt and grandmother since both his parents, Norma Albeno and Giovannie Cardena, were remanded to the Hattieville Prison for an Unlicensed Firearm last year. The Kolbe Foundation is arranging for Albeno and Cardena to visit the family and attend the funeral.
