Police anti-crime campaign in full force
Business is brisk during the Christmas season as gifts, decorations and groceries are bought for the big day. Unfortunately, at this time of year, there is also a marked increase in crimes such as robberies and burglaries. To balance it all out, the Police Department has followed suit and boosted the number of officers on patrol; particularly in the downtown area to ensure the safety of shoppers as well as businesses. Assistant Commissioner of Police, Elodio Aragon, who is in charge of the Eastern Division, says the anti-crime campaign is in full force, but they also need the support of communities to solve those crimes that have already been committed.
ACP Elodio Aragon, O.C., Eastern Division
“From early we have launched our anti-crime operations and definitely right now, especially in this high time of the Christmas coming right up to the twenty-fifth, we are ensuring that definitely the shopping areas, the commercial areas of Belize City are well patrolled by police officers. We’ve even beefed up to ensure that he public understands and can see the police presence out there and to ensure that their shopping is safe and the areas they will be visiting to do their daily business will be safe and secure. So definitely I want to assure the public that the Police Department will be out there, is out there already and will continue to be out there to ensure their safety while they do their shopping etcetera. I’d also like to mention that we continue to ask the public for their assistance. There’s a number of murders out there that we still need the assistance from the general public to come forward and assist us. These murders that occur or whatever crime that may occur in your area, I’m quite sure that within these neighborhoods are people who have vital information that could assist the Police Department. I ask you, come forward, be a partner with the Police Department so we could begin to clean up your neighborhood. In neighborhoods, there lies certain people, individuals who are criminals, who are out there bent on committing crime. Let us assist you and therefore, we ask you, support us and we can continue to work to solve more of these murders and crimes that occur in your area and together I’m quite sure that we could make a difference in Belize.”
