Investigations into death of Jaydan Guy almost complete
The investigation into the death of the twenty-one month old baby, Jaydan Guy, is almost complete. The toddler choked on a red kidney bean on July twenty second at the family home in Belmopan. His parents rushed him to the Western Regional Hospital and that led to an arduous journey to Belize City where he was diagnosed as brain dead. Guy was kept on life support for six days prior to his death on July twenty eighth. This morning Director of Health Services, Doctor Michael Pitts said that there are two more individuals the Ministry of Health would like to question before completing what may soon be a legal case.
Dr. Michael Pitts, Director of Health Services
“Basically there are some gaps, two principal persons involved in the treatment are out of the country. Basically, once we close those investigations at that level, an internal aspect, then we’ll do some peer review, people external to the ministry of health go through the information to ascertain the facts. But I will tell you that we have gotten communication from the family, through their attorney, so it changes the situation how we relate. We have gotten advice from the Sol. Gen office on how to proceed.”

“The family is planning to sue?”
Dr. Michael Pitts
“I know to the extent that they have written to ask for information which we are obliged to give, by the way so that’s where it is. But they haven’t said that they will sue or anything of that sort but once you see you being to get letters like that then you have to change your mode of how you respond to that to safeguard all.”

“But you do need to interview the two additional persons.”
Dr. Michael Pitts
“Yes, we indeed. In fact the family indicate they have some persons that they would like us to interview so we need to do more work on that alright.”
