Village councils unite; seek more autonomy, respect
In most countries of the world, political and economic power is cantered in metropolitan areas and Belize is no exception. This is despite that fact that most of our nation’s wealth and a large share of its people reside outside of cities and towns. Over the last several years momentum has been building to redress this imbalance as village councils seek greater authority and autonomy. This trend is most evident in the formation of an organisation to represent rural Belizeans nationwide. News Five’s Kendra Griffith reports.
