Two arrested for Damion Gordon murder

Story PictureWhile police investigate the city’s latest murder, they claim to have solved the one before.

Jacqueline Godwin, Reporting
Five days after twenty-one year old Damion Gordon was killed, Belize City police escorted to Magistrate?s Court the two young men they believe are responsible for the murder. Twenty-two year olds Alfred Conorquie and Callum Sutherland have been jointly charged with the crime of Murder. Sutherland was additionally charged with Abetment to Commit Murder.

G. Michael Reid, Police Press Officer
?These two persons were supposed to be the ones who were in the vehicle that drove by where Mr. Gordon was and fired the shots that caused the fatal injuries.?

While the police have yet to recover the murder weapon believe to be a rifle they have impounded the car they suspect was used in the crime.

G. Michael Reid
?At this point that is still being investigated. We are not too clear on that.?

Jacqueline Godwin
?The white Toyota Camry has that been found??

G. Michael Reid
?Yes. The police have impounded a vehicle they believe was the vehicle used in this incident.?

Police Press Officer G. Michael Reid would not comment on reports that drugs may have been involved only that the investigation continues. Gordon was killed as he stood on the corner of Iguana and Seagull Streets. In the meantime Reid says as a result of the arrest authorities have now intensified their efforts to see if the accused and other individuals are the same persons who went on a gun firing spree following the crime that caused one of the stray bullets to hit fifty-five year old Cleopatra Tucker in her forehead as she was about to get into her car on Kut Avenue.

G. Michael Reid
?We are certainly looking at the possibility that it might have been the same individuals who fired that shot. We are waiting on ballistic testing from the slug, hopefully that will tell us more about what occurred.?

Following their court appearance Conorquie and Sutherland were remanded to Hattieville Prison.

If the names of Alfred Conorquie and Callum Sutherland sound familiar it’s because they were arrested in February for the armed robbery of over thirty-three thousand dollars from the Princess Hotel. On a more upbeat note, we are happy to report that fifty-five year old Cleopatra Tucker is now back home recovering from her injury.
