Elderly man run over twice on N. H?way

An eighty-five year old man has died, after being run over twice. Authorities say around seven on Friday night Andres Cano was attempting to cross the highway in Santa Clara village between miles seventy-four and seventy-five when he was knocked down by a green car. The driver, Pastor Milton Solis pulled over to help Cano but before he could reach the victim, another vehicle, described as a white truck, ran over Cano again, injuring his leg. The elderly man was rushed to the Northern Regional Hospital suffering from head and body injuries. He died while undergoing treatment. Solis has been served with notice of intended prosecution and Corozal cops continue to look for the second driver involved in the accident.

Meanwhile, Belmopan Mayor Simeon Lopez escaped serious injury over the weekend following a traffic accident on the Hummingbird Highway. According to a press release from the City Council, Lopez was returning from a Mayors’ Association meeting in Punta Gorda Town around midnight on Friday when his Montero Sport SUV overturned several times, coming to a stop in a ravine near mile thirty. Behind the wheel at the time was the mayor’s driver Orlando Castillo. Neither man was injured but the vehicle sustained extensive damage. As for what led to the incident, we understand one of the vehicle’s tyres was badly deflated which caused the driver to lose control and run off the road.
