Smuggling suspect draws shotgun, police shoot him in foot
A police shooting in the Orange Walk district has led to an internal investigation to determine whether the officers involved used excessive force. During an operation on around seven thirty on Sunday night officers and Custom officials went to Yo Creek Village where they visited the residence of Bartolo Novelo. Authorities were there to conduct a search of the premises for uncustomed goods. But Novelo wasn’t having it and pulled a shotgun, apparently determined not the let the law enforcement officials inside. According to the cops, despite their warnings to an advancing Novelo to drop the machete, he kept coming. A single shot hit Novelo in the right foot and he was transported to the Northern Regional Hospital where he remains admitted to ward in stable condition. According to police, once Novelo had been looked after, the raid was conducted at the home and customs officials discovered several cases of uncustomed beer.
Meanwhile, reports out of Ladyville tonight are than the victim of an armed robbery was shot in the neck on Monday morning. According to police twenty-four year old Leon Humes was in the Japan area of the village when he was approached by two men he knew. The duo demanded money and stripped Humes of an undisclosed amount of cash. But the victim decided to put up a struggle and that’s when one of his attackers pulled out a gun and fired. Pellets hit Humes in the left side of his neck and the two thieves took off. The injured man is in the K.H.M.H. but his injuries are not considering life threatening.
