Narda loses another round in Supreme Court
Former Social Security Chief Narda Garcia received another judicial setback today when Chief Justice Abdulai Conteh declined to allow her leave to appeal his earlier decision not to grant judicial review. Garcia’s earlier request to have the court review and quash the report of the Senate Select Committee investigating actions of the Social Security Board, was denied on October thirtieth, on the grounds that her allegations of unfairness did not reach a sufficient threshold, as she was merely a witness and not the subject of any investigation. In its final report the Committee recommended her dismissal as C.E.O. and she was eventually fired by the Board on the recommendation of the Prime Minister. The Chief Justice’s decision denying leave to appeal may still be brought to the Belize Court of Appeal. Representing Garcia was former Solicitor General Elson Kaseke.
