…And another accident at mile 28 on the Western Hwy

The area that Gough crashed between mile twenty-seven and twenty-eight is well known. Immediately across from the accident scene, a crushed vehicle is perched atop an insurance company’s billboard. But Gough was not the only unlucky person. Another vehicle crashed yesterday afternoon, a few yards away from Gough’s Hilux. And according to corporal Bermudez, this one which occurred half an hour later, involved some tourists.

“Yesterday afternoon on Thursday thirteenth August, one John Downs, fifty-three years, date of birth 8.7.56 Belizean taxi driver of number forty five Handy Side Street, Belize City reported at about one-twenty p.m. whilst driving a grey van Toyota Priva with license D-5910 travelling from the direction of Belize City towards Belmopan and upon reaching between miles twenty-seven and twenty-eight on the Western Highway he was overtaking another vehicle where he lost control and flipped. Travelling along with John Downs was Raheim Downs, nine years, date of birth 02.12.2000 who was seated in the front passenger seat. He received injuries to his hip. Also two tourists were travelling in the same van namely Shelby Potkin, eighteen years, date of birth 7.04.91, student of California, USA; and Marta Potkin, fifty-one years, date of birth 8.03.58, nurse of California, USA who escaped unhurt.”
