U.S. fugitive handed over to U.S. Marshals
An American tourist visiting Belize has been deported home after local authorities found out she was a wanted fugitive. According to Caye Caulker police, on Monday they raided a hotel room on the island and found a small quantity of weed. The two men in the room at the time were immediately detained but as cops continued to investigate, they found an American identification card belonging to twenty-four year old Diana Bass but Bass herself was no where to be seen. The police, initially concerned for Bass’ safety scoured the Caye to ascertain that the young woman was in good health. As part of procedure, Bass’ particulars were forwarded to U.S. counterparts and that’s when investigators learnt that Bass was in fact wanted in her home state of Mississippi for the sale of the controlled substance Alprazolam. The drug is used to treat anxiety and panic attacks. Bass was later detained and on Tuesday escorted to the United States where she was delivered to U.S. Marshals in Houston.
