Mexican singers serenade Belizeans
Voz En Punto is regarded as one of Mexico’s most talented vocal ensembles and for two consecutive nights the group will be performing in Belize. The concerts, dubbed Mexico a Capella, promise to display the artistic energy of the Mexican culture. This evening the five member group arrived in the country and I caught up with its members at the Biltmore Plaza.
Jose Galvan, Conductor/Singer, Voz En Punto
?We are a vocal ensemble, a Capella and we sing Mexican music from the 16th Century and the Indian languages to music, contemporary music from Mexico.”
Jacqueline Godwin
?Is this type of music popular in Mexico??
Jose Galvan
?Yes. Not in he choral form, not a Capella, but the music is traditional music, folk music.?
?You are going to hear very interesting music from the 16th Century, 17th Century from a lot of areas of Mexico and you can hear the instruments, the Mexican traditional instruments, but with the voice, only with voices.?
The concert is hosted by the Embassy of Mexico, The National Institute of Culture and History, and The George Price Centre for Peace and Development. The city concert will take place at the Bliss Centre for the Performing Arts on Wednesday at six-thirty in the evening. The final show also starts at six-thirty the following evening at the George Price Centre in Belmopan.
