Two more cases “nolle prosequi”
Latin was once again the language of choice at the Supreme Court today as in two more cases the crown cried “nolle prosequi.” The prosecution of forty-seven year old Alfonso Guzman for Manslaughter by Negligence was halted when the main witness did not show up in court. That witness, believed to be in El Salvador, was a passenger in a vehicle in which Andrea Pineda was killed, following a collision with Guzman’s vehicle.
The other failed prosecution was a case against twenty-one year old Gary Garbutt of Belmopan for Unlawful Carnal Knowledge of a fourteen year old girl. The minor could not be found to testify. Both cases are over two years old and in each the released defendant was reminded that the charges could be reinstated if the witnesses are located.
