Counterfeit currency in O.W. brings arrests
Two residents of Orange Walk have been arrested for keeping counterfeit currency. Fifty-six year old Daniel Lopez and twenty-five year old Laurieni Melgar were busted when, acting on a tip, police found nine thousand five hundred dollars in bogus blue notes at their residence on Custard Apple Street. Interestingly, hidden under the mattress along with the funny money was over eleven thousand in genuine cash. The fakes were easy to spot since they all had the same serial number: DA565193. Lopez and Melgar have been charged with Possession of Counterfeit Currency.
