Cops busted for sneaking Red Bull out of C.F.Z.

Two Corozal cops are in big trouble tonight after they were busted trying to sneak goods out of the Commercial Free Zone. According to the authorities, around eleven thirty Thursday afternoon, Corporal Leroy Hernandez and Constable Edgar Pech were dispatched to investigate a theft in the zone. But subsequent investigations have revealed that while inside the duty free shopping area, the officers bought twenty cases of Red Bull. Minutes later, we’re sure Pech and Hernandez wanted “wings” because the energy drinks were spotted by Customs officials at a nearby checkpoint and both officers were immediately detained for possession of uncustomed goods. The men were taken to court this morning where they were ordered to pay a nine thousand dollar fine or three times the initial cost of the item. While the infraction won’t get the cops kicked off the force, tonight they both face disciplinary charges within department. That internal investigation, ordered by Police Commissioner Gerald Westby, is expected to begin next week.
