Cyclist killed in N. Hwy. hit & run
A man from Calcutta Village is the country’s latest road accident victim. Around eight Tuesday night twenty-one year old Brian Williams was, along with a friend, riding his bike on the Northern Highway between miles eighty-one and eighty-two when he was struck by a car. Police investigations reveal that the accident occurred when a green car, travelling north, tried to overtake another vehicle and in the process collided with the cyclist. As a result of the impact, Williams received severe head and body injuries and was pronounced dead on arrival at Corozal Hospital. According to police, instead of assisting the injured man, the driver fled the scene. Later that night, however, nineteen year old Gian Clarke, in the company of his older brother, surrendered to the police, claiming responsibility for the crime. Clarke has been charged with Manslaughter by Negligence, Causing Death by Careless Conduct, Driving Without Due Care and Attention, Failing to Stop and Render Aid and Driving Under the Influence of Alcohol.
