Dr. Miguel Rosado succumbs to injuries

Story PictureOn August twenty-eighth he was seriously injured in a traffic accident on the Western Highway, a mishap that claimed the life of Michelle Leslie. Tonight we regret to report that Dr. Miguel Rosado, following weeks of intense medical efforts, has also passed away.

Dr. Egbert Grinage, Head of Paediatrics, Universal Health Services
?He had this special rapport with his patients. He would always hug them and hug the kids up and talk to them. If they were Hispanic he would talk to them in Spanish and if they were English speaking he would use the preferred language. He had this special bond with his patients and it seems that his patients loved him back in return.?

Well known paediatrician and kidney specialist Dr. Miguel Angel Rosado passed away around ten twenty this morning. Rosado had suffered severe brain injury following his road traffic accident on August twenty-eight. On Monday he returned to Belize after there was little doctors abroad could do to save his life. At the time of his death he was on life support in the I.C.U. unit of the Karl Heusner Memorial Hospital.

Dr. Egbert Grinage
?I believe that our family at Universal has lost a great doctor. The Belize community has lost a great hero and he will never truly be replaced.?

Dr. Peter Craig, Dermatologist, Universal Health Services
?I have known Mike as we affectionately call him for greater than fourteen years. We started together doing group private practice over at the Fort George Medical Centre and then we started here at Universal in the last four or five years. Mike?as you see we work right next door to each other and there was a very close working relationship and we will surely miss him.?

Among many of his accomplishments Dr. Rosado served three different terms as president of the Belize Medical and Dental Association.

Dr. Peter Craig
?Mike was a pioneer. He actually started the Kidney Association of Belize, as you know he had a sub-specialty in renal kidney diseases. He single handily began that unit. His expertise and his loving care towards all his patients of course that will be a great lost to the community.?

According to Universal Health Services the dialysis unit will now be named after Dr. Rosado who helped to establish that service.

Andrea Cox, President, Belize Kidney Association
?He was also our chief medical advisor to the association. Since his accidents eight couple weeks ago we have been feeling the effect of his lost already. The patients know and they can verify this, so we can just imagine what the whole lost to the whole country will be like. Because we have lost a paediatrician and nephrologists.?

President of the Belize Kidney association Andrea Cox is one of the few people who got to see Dr. Rosado before he died.

Andrea Cox
?I guess trying to be factual I knew what I was seeing was not what he would want to be in this world. I kept praying for a miracle that he would some how come back to us. Not even in the full force we knew him to be but in some other way. But then in the end with my faith I kept praying for God?s will to be done.?

Beside his massive head injury, Rosado developed a number of complications that affected his heart and lungs which finally collapsed.

Andrea Cox
?Well the association has to find a way to stay alive because that is what he would have wanted. Nurse Maria Cox from the Universal dialysis unit and myself, which are the two main people right now, are working on the association. We have been fighting to find ways to keep it alive. We have been communicating with other doctors here in Belize and we have also been communicating with nephrologists in Guatemala City, who has done the last two to three transplants for us with patients we have gotten over there. So we are hoping that other doctors and other specialists will step up and try to full his footsteps.?

Dr. Rosado will be laid to rest in Corozal Town on Friday.

Dr. Rosado was thirty-nine years old. He is survived by his wife Soli and three children.
